A Summer Dessert Table by the Fire Pit with MacKenzie-Childs Sterling Check

There’s something extra special about serving dessert outdoors, especially when it’s styled with pieces as charming as MacKenzie-Childs Sterling Check enamelware. For this fireside summer setting, I layered blue and silver tones, vintage glassware, and lilacs in bloom — all styled around our backyard fire pit with Ella, our Bernese Mountain Dog, happily curled up next to it all.

With the fire crackling, cake ready to serve, and champagne on ice, this summer dessert table came together with ease — and plenty of character.

Why I Love MacKenzie-Childs Sterling Check Enamelware

The Sterling Check pattern is a soft, neutral twist on MacKenzie-Childs’ iconic Courtly Check. With muted silver tones and subtle pull-throughs of blue and yellow, it feels fresh, timeless, and easy to pair with almost any seasonal decor. I especially love how it plays off the blue cushions, lilac blooms, and natural tones of our backyard.

Each one adds a layer of charm and whimsy to the fire pit setting — both functional and beautiful.

What’s for Dessert? Lemon Lulu Cakes and Vermont Charm

No summer dessert table is complete without a sweet bite, and for this gathering, I served one of my favorite local treats — the famous Lemon Lu Lu cake from Mother Myrick’s in Manchester, Vermont. This lemony, buttery cake is a regional favorite and is available to shop online. Score!

I love using the mini individual Lemon Lulu Cakes for smaller gatherings. Each one is displayed on a Sterling Check appetizer plate and paired with a vintage blue goblet, tying together the blue tones from the enamelware, our outdoor seating, and even the summer sky.

Bringing Out the Blues and Yellows in Sterling Check Enamelware

One of the things I love most about MacKenzie-Childs’ Sterling Check enamelware is how beautifully it picks up on other colors — especially when styled outdoors. The subtle blue and yellow pull-throughs in the checkered pattern coordinate perfectly with our vintage blue glassware, sunny Lemon Lulu cake, and the soft lilac blooms fresh from the garden.

The Sterling Check cake stand is a showstopper on its own — large enough to display our local lemon cake in all its glory and effortlessly anchoring the fire pit table.

I tucked a bouquet of lilacs and bleeding hearts into the Sterling Check enamel pitcher, which adds another sweet layer of color and charm. It’s moments like these that make styling feel more like storytelling.

Fun & Functional Enamelware Detail

This enamelware collection isn’t just pretty — it’s outdoor-friendly and ultra-versatile.

One of our unexpected favorites is the oversized Sterling Check salt and pepper shakers. They’re playful, dramatic, and always a conversation starter—my husband loves them.

We also topped off the celebration with the matching Sterling Check wine cooler, perfect for chilling champagne while we relaxed around the fire pit.

Whether it’s a summer dessert night or an impromptu gathering, these pieces bring personality and polish to any outdoor moment.

Styling a Patriotic Summer Dessert Table with MacKenzie-Childs on the Porch

Now, let’s head up to the porch for a second summer dessert tablescape — this time with a patriotic twist using the same MacKenzie-Childs Sterling Check enamelware collection. With warmer weather arriving here in Vermont and summer holidays just around the corner, this porch table felt like the perfect setting for a more festive red, white, and blue dessert moment.

I paired the Sterling Check appetizer plates with classic red-and-white check placemats, vintage dark blue glassware, and floral cloth napkins for a layered, nostalgic look. We started things off with fresh watermelon slices and Maine blueberries, all served with my mother’s vintage sterling silver flatware — a sentimental touch I always love to bring out in the summer.

For a colorful focal point, I used the Sterling Check wine cooler as a flower vase, placing it atop the matching pedestal platter as a casual but elevated centerpiece. The Sterling Check pitcher held fresh water for guests, while a few candles added glow and ambiance to the warm evening setting.
