Vintage Family Heirloom Rackets
I have mentioned several times on the blog that I come from a long line of family tennis players. My father was an avid tennis player who played until he was 86 years old. One of my favorite treasures is his collection of tennis rackets, which I display in a basket in one of our guest bedrooms at our home in Coastal Maine.
My uncle, John Conroy, grew up in Newport, RI, as a ball boy on the grass courts at the now International Tennis Hall of Fame. He is memorialized on the flag pole, looking over the courts today. He was also the Princeton tennis coach and owned and ran the Lawrenceville Tennis Camp, which I attended for three summers in my youth. Then, he gave me an autographed tennis racket by Chris Everett. Unfortunately, it was quickly stolen, and I wish I had that vintage tennis racket today…

Vintage Tennis Rackets in Patriotic Decor
It’s almost Labor Day, and I found these two Wilson vintage tennis rackets at a local barn sale for $10 apiece.
This inspired today’s Patriotic display in our dining room, which uses these old racquets, along with salvaged windows, faux red apples, white hydrangeas, and an old American flag.
These classic sports artifacts, with their aged wood and iconic designs, pair beautifully with red, white, and blue elements.
Salvaged Windows and Faux Apples
Artificial or real apples add fabulous color to summer decor. I used apples here to add color to a neutral summer decor palette.
The salvaged white windows layered on our vintage white mantel add such a soft summer-style contrast that nothing else is needed here—keeping it simple!
