1. Gather the Colors of Fall with a Foraged Vintage Bouquet

Take a walk through your yard, a nearby trail, or your favorite country road and gather whatever autumn has to offer. Dried grasses, colorful leaves, turning hydrangeas, seedpods, evergreen branches, pussy willows, pinecones, winter berries, or even a few late-season sunflowers all make beautiful additions to a collected fall arrangement.

The beauty of this prompt is that there’s no recipe to follow. Let the colors of the season guide you and style your bouquet in a favorite vintage vase, stoneware crock, antique pitcher, or even a large old tin. One of my favorite fall finds is a vintage McCoy vase. Their soft pastel glazes and timeless shapes pair beautifully with the rich colors of foraged foliage, and they’re often easy to spot while thrifting or antiquing.

The best part? Make your arrangement big, loose, and full of texture. As the season unfolds, let it dry naturally and continue adding new treasures from your walks, a few more colorful branches, extra pinecones, dried hydrangeas, seedpods, or whatever catches your eye. By the end of autumn, you’ll have a beautifully layered arrangement that has evolved with the season and will last for months.

This fall, let your vintage glassware become part of your decorating. Amber, amethyst, olive green, ruby red, smoky gray, cobalt blue— there’s no wrong color this season. Fall is the perfect time to mix rich jewel tones with antiques, collected treasures, and the warm colors already happening outdoors.

Vintage glassware isn’t just for entertaining. Display your favorite pieces on open shelving, inside a glass-front cabinet, across a dining table, on a porch, or tucked into a bookshelf for an unexpected pop of color. Sometimes I arrange everything just so, and other times I simply tuck new finds onto a shelf, close the doors, and let them wait for their next moment to shine.

One of the best decorating lessons I’ve learned this year is that when a room feels like it’s missing something, I don’t head to the store; I head to my cupboard of curiosities. That’s where I “shop my own collections,” mixing old favorites with new thrifted finds until a room feels collected, personal, and uniquely ours.

Think of it as your own little decorating library. Fill it slowly, rearrange it often, and let it change with the seasons. Add autumn treasures now, winter favorites later, and enjoy having one special place where creativity is always waiting for you.

The best part? As the season changes, your displays can change too. Refill the bowl, swap in something new from the farmers market, or add a few freshly gathered pinecones and branches. Fall decorating doesn’t have to be complicated; it can be as simple as celebrating what’s already in season.
